Swim Ulster Galas

Stage 1 – Development Galas

  • 1-day event typically
  • 50m / 100m / 200m events
  • Qualifying times in 3 events gains promotion to Qualifying Galas
  • Big focus for the club this year, next one is in Jan 2017:
    • We will let swimmers know when they are ready
    • Logbooks will be a big aid to helping them set & achieve their goals
  •  Various other galas at this level organised by clubs in the region:
    • Ards Junior Open (Dec & May) – 25m/50m/100m events
    • Bangor Minors (Dec) – 25m/50m/100m events
    • Templemore Gala (Mar) – 25m/50m/100m events

Stage 2 – Qualifying Galas

  • 2-day/3-day event typically
  • 50m / 100m / 200m / 400m / 800m / 1500m events
  • Various other galas at this level organised by clubs in the region:
    • Bangor Open (LC Jan, SC Jun)
    • Antrim Open (SC, Mar/Apr between Lisburn & Larne)

Stage 3 – Ulster Age & Youth Championships and Ulster Open SC Championships

  • 2-day/3-day event typically
  • 100m / 200m / 400m / 800m / 1500m events
  • Higher qualifications required than Qualifying Galas

Stage 4 – Irish Age Groups (a.k.a. Irish Division II, held in Limerick)

  • Multi-day event typically
  • 100m / 200m / 400m / 800m / 1500m events
  • Short Course (SC) gala swam at University of Limerick pool
  • Held annually end of June / start of July

Stage 5 – Irish Nationals (a.k.a. Irish Division I, held in Dublin)

  • Multi-day event typically
  • 100m / 200m / 400m / 800m / 1500m events
  • Long Course (SC) gala swam at National Aquatic Centre (NAC) pool
  • Held annually end of in mid / end of July
